Most of the Herden
ancestors traced here come from villages in Schlesien (Silesia) -
an area round the Sudety mountain range, formerly part of
Germany, now split between modern Poland and the Czech Republic
(lying between Wroclaw (Breslau) in Poland, and Prague in the
Czech Republic).
Most of the village names in this tree are given in the old
Germanic form, and where known, the modern Polish or Czech.
The Herden's were amongst the first settlers in the county of
Glatz in Silesia, and records can be traced in villages in the
area for over 600 years. The Herden line here came from
Seifersdorf in the county of Gtatz. The main church archives
consulted by Paul Herden and Karl Michael Viering are in Breslau
(Wroclaw) in Poland.
Other Herden's in the records include:
Records form 1332 show payments to Heynusch 'Überschar'. He was granted lands in Glatz by king John of Luxemburg - King of Bohemia 1310-46.
Records from 1464 show payments to the village of Freudenau
